I have a fairly obscure wrestling DVD called King of Carnage, the main event is a 4 way between Abdullah the Butcher, Terry Funk, Dusty Rhodes and Kevin Sullivan. No real point in me saying this I guess, other than the name being given to the tournament made me think of the DVD.
On a side note, does anyone actually know (people who were actually there, or were in charge) how the rest of the first Deep South tournament was supposed to go (who were in the other matches, what were the un-used stipulations etc.) if it hadn't been shut down half way through? I would actually be really interested!

Good job on that list! I've never seen anything like it.
The Bellevue Plaza will no longer allow light tubes because of the dust. For this reason, I don't think there will be another KOTDM there ever again. Maybe they should try to find an outdoor venue and do a big two night tourney in 2013.
I think Devon is the first name in the Kings of Carnage tourney. It will be interesting to see what they do with no tubes; I'm looking forward to it.

I think banning light tubes could be the making of the tournament, it sort of forces the hand of new and hopefully exciting stipulations for one thing.

Deep South would've been fucked if they didn't shut it down, by the end of the first round they had used up the majority of their gimmicks. And I don't see a deathmatch tournament going over very good without at least one light tube, it's just next to impossible nowadays, it'll be interesting though.

Match Idea:Barefoot, Bare Bone (8 8x4 sheets of plywood placed on top of the existing canvas), Carpet Strip Mat (strips screwed to the plywood arranged in 1 foot by 1 foot squares), Texas Death Match...you know Texas Death-once there has been a fall, pin or submission, there's a 30 second rest period, then if the competitor that lost the fall fails to answer the 10 count after the rest period, then the match is over and he is declared the loser. It can also be a No-Rope Barbed Wire set-up, maybe use a Chandelier set-up with that, (you know...electrified light bulb-not tubes). Also-it would be nice to see actual WRESTLING in these death match environments...remember-gimmicks are supposed to ENHANCE a match, not be the focus of it.

There has always been wrestling in death matches. Maybe you have been watching too many Carnage Cup Non-Tourney death matches from the last few years.

And the funny thing is, there would be no actual wrestling in that match you described. Guys wouldn't even be able to stand in the ring.

I was actually thinking that myself olympus, but didn't really want to say anything, on the barefoot one at least.
On a side note: It wouldn't be much of a challenge to come up with the worst deathmatch stipulation, just ram all the worst ones together in one match, done.
Drunken, Unlucky 13 staple gun (dollar bills), pits of that yellow fluffy stuff you water proof lofts/attics with, barbed wire canvas, London bridge deathmatch.

Carnage Cup non-tourney matches are about the only DMs I watch that feature little to no actual wrestling.

I was talking about the carpet strip grid thing.

So kasaijun, were you listing those created match types because they would involve very little wrestling, to further your point that matches actually need more than just the gimmick itself? If so, then yeah it makes sense.
