I'd try to be anarchic, and just bring one giant thumbtack, I mean where the pointy part is about as wide as your leg, BAM!
what on earth are you talking about? The Highland era of IWA were some of the biggest crowds they ever drew, and most of those crowds would just leave before any hardcore stuff. Compared to just a few months prior, shows in the Clarksville building that would draw 20 people for a FBTW main..
As it has been said many times, if it wasn't for smartmark and dvds, iwa would have died years ago. sorry but nobody bought iwa dvds to skip the death match stuff. if there was no hardcore stuff on the show , i didnt care about, or get it, so ill have to take your word on that. clarksville had low drawing shows at times simply because the over ran the hell out of it. people have lives and cant go to shows every week, and by running so many shows they burned out the crowd. it had nothing to do with hardcore stuff. if it wouldnt have been for the hardcore stuff they would have drew worse.
Hardcore wrestling doesn't need light tubes. there's plenty of other gimmicks that can be used to have a great deathmatch. Light tubes didn't start being used until the early 2000s and there was plenty of deathmatches before that. You cannot argue that Masada and Danny Havoc's gusset plate deathmatch wasn't one of the sickest and most violent matches in CZW history. you just can't. and that happened in a place where light tubes are banned.
Hardcore wrestling so needs tubes and glass. when a deathmatch fan thinks death match they think tubes. the one and only reason czw does not use tubes in phily is because our shitty athletic commission wont allow them. thats it. thats the only reason. i have used gusset plates before and if you would rather have those things stuck in your body than being hit with a tube your and idiot. that was a great match and a great new weapon to use. but that doesn't mean skimp on tubes.
I like light tubes. I think 200 light tube matches are good main events. But I also think that stuff like "put your opponent through this many light tube log cabins" matches are lame and incredibly tired, and that just adding random light tubes for the sake of random light tubes is lame (yes, looking at you, BJW).
I disagree. we are talking about the kotdm here. not just a regular show. kotdm started it all, and they should live up to the name.
If you can work and know how to work hardcore, you don't need a ton of gimmicks to have a tremendous match and definitely don't need stuff smashing everywhere. Masada had a tremendous hardcore match in ACW a few months ago with, of all people, Darin Corbin. I don't think they used more than chairs and maybe a beer bottle, but it was one of the better hardcore matches I've ever seen. Not that I'd say it's what I'd book for KOTDM, but adding a ton of glass to the match certainly wouldn't have made it a better match.
Sounds like a great hardcore match, but absolutely not a death match in any way. This is kotdm. its where you step it up,so yes glass will make it better. glass has the visual effect that nothing else does.
Too many guys use deathmatches as a reason to not work, and not a reason to build the drama and psychology of the match. Watch the old Onita deathmatches from FMW. they were incredibly violent and bloody matches, but there was a build up to the violence. they didn't just start ramming each other into the barbed wire. they had a reason for why everything happened. FMW will always be remembered as one of the most violent federations of all time and guess what? FMW never once used light tubes..
I agree with the reason to not work part, so very simply dont book those kind of guys, and dont book some guy in his first death match ever in kotdm. fmw was great, but they also had a huge budget and did shit like explosions and stuff like that, that iwa isnt capable of doing. they also went out of business. thsi tournament is about getting iwa back in business.
I'd much rather see creative weapons that have never been seen before and stipulations that are unique than just "every match has a ton of light tubes". TLC & four corners of pain is a good start. I think that's part of the allure to gussets. they haven't been done a thousand times to death, so everyone wants to see what they are going to do in this situation. what'll happen when you get powerbombed through a gusset table. what happens if someone stomps on a gusset barefoot. it's all been done with light tubes a thousand times. the tube explodes and has a history of severely hurting people.
Im all for unigue stips. but the last kotdm seemed like lets skimp on the tubes, but instead go barbed wire crazy, which made it very boring because barbed wire doenst have that visual. after a few times landing in it thats enough. flying glass i just never get tired of. coming up with new ideas is great. but by doing so you dont replace what already great about a death match and that is glass. if you look at all the matches with tubes and compare that to the total major injuries from them, theres not many. the major injuries have been caused by certain things that easily can be avoidded.
Not to mention, you know how much of a pain in the ass light tube glass is to clean up?
lamest answer ever! if your too fukin lazy to clean up glass dont have a death match tournament. for 4 years in a row at kotdm i have helped take down the ring and put it away, and clean up ever kind of weapon from barbed wire to glas and in between, so yes i know what cleaning up glass is like, and it was just like sweeping up anything else, so i saw no big deal at all, and it wa smuch easier than dealing with shit like barbed wire, which i got stuck in my leg.

Not to mention light tubes are unpredictable, sitting in the crowd at a KOTDM I had glass fly into my CAN of soda, as well as hit me and cut me... not complaining, small price to pay for a GREAT show, but what if a piece of stray glass hit someone else? Someone not so forgiving? Or, God foorbid, a child? Or flew into the drink of a child, who takes a drink unknowingly and swallws light tube glass??? It can be argued that risks are taken at events such as these, and that children shouldn't be there ANYWAY, but we all know they are. And there are just assholes in this world, period. So while I'm not saying that there should be zero lighttubes, there are legitimate reasons why less light tubes is a better choice. when you go to a death match tournament you know what your getting it to. thats half the fun. at tod a few years ago cryhard dustin lee broke a tube over my head. i was siting front row and shit happens. if you dont want to be in that situation then you buy the dvd. i loved how the old iwa announcer would say before the shows "if it looks like the actions coming your way it is, so grab your shit and get the fuk outta the way." they should bring that back every show, and print a enter at your own risk disclaimer on the tickets, and have a big sign as you enter the building. for goggles wear them if you want. no big deal at all. i have seen people do it before, and nobody cared. for the drink situation, it susually hot as hell, so you should be drinking water anyways, which has a cap. problem solved.
